The fingerprint unit in our forensic science class lasts for about 31/2 weeks.  Basic understanding of fingerprints, their chemical composition, identification of as well as advanced topics including the use of alternate light sources are included.  At the end of the unit, students are given a real fingerprint proficiency test as well as a mock crime scene to process.  Below are examples of student work (I just photographed them).  With just some basic equipment, you can achieve these same results.
