"The girl I am, the change I lead." That was the theme of this year’s International Day of the Girl Conference held at Manhattanville University in Purchase, N.Y., on Oct. 9.
New Rochelle High School students from the “My Sister, Keep Her” organization were among nearly 300 young women who attended. Sponsored by the Westchester Youth Bureau, the event brought together girls and young women to share ideas, explore challenges facing girls and discover how their voices and actions can inspire meaningful change in their schools, communities and beyond.
New Rochelle High School Senior Jaslene "Jazzy" Chambers said: “Girls Day helped me reflect on myself, feel connected to others, and leave feeling inspired to be my best self.”
Established in 2019, the conference is a day to inspire and empower girls from across Westchester County with a program of interactive experiences. The Westchester County IDG Conference was inspired by the United Nations’ International Day of the Girl Child, which was established on October 11, 2012, to highlight and uplift girls throughout the world.
