The New Rochelle High School Huguenot Pioneers’ Special Olympics basketball team recently competed in its first game since the COVID-19 pandemic began in March 2020 – and it was an exciting night for players and fans. Alyssa Padilla, pictured, scored a game-high 14 points in the Huguenot Pioneers’ victory over Mamaroneck. The win was a combined effort of all players. William Monzon, Christopher Conte, and Salvador Corona all provided huge contributions with their skillful passing and dribbling. On Tuesday, the team played White Plains. Adrian Somoza-Almeda (third photo) scored a game-high 8 points for the Pioneers. Additionally, Jonathan Choflet and Salvador Corona added 4 points apiece in the 22-18 win. The team’s next game is Tuesday, April 5, at New Rochelle High School. Come out and support the team!
